Henry Ward

Henry Ward

Henry currently resides in Chelmsford, Massachusetts. “I previously lived in Arizona, where I went for treatment, and have been sober since November 17, 2008.  My family and I moved back to Massachusetts from Arizona in June of 2009.  Things were going well for a while. I had zero temptation to use alcohol or drugs, however, I was becoming squirrelly, and a dry drunk.” It was at this time that Henry knew he had to do something to cope with every day struggles, and deal with his own perceived shortcomings, and character defects. “I started walking distances, which helped. Then I had this crazy notion that if I could run, I could go further, and get there faster!” It all started to come together in the Spring of 2013. “We were about to visit our friends in Corning NY in May, and I saw that they had an 8k race as part of their annual Glassfest.  I asked my friend who is a runner, if he was going to run this.  He said he would run if I did.  I said, sign me up. Henry ran the race pushing his son, and said he hated every minute of it. That is until he finished! “ When I finished, I received a glass medallion. I felt like a million bucks. The feeling I got from running was like a high I never expected.”
I can honestly say that running has saved me, and helps me feel somewhat balanced, and helps me manage my daily struggles. I don't know what I would have done, who I would have become, if I never started running. The transformation of my person has been truly remarkable.” “I feel like a totally different person.”
